| The unit conducts research on the functioning of agro-systems in intensive tropical monocultures (banana and pineapple), with a view to conversion to more sustainable farming systems. The functioning of the agro-system is addressed from the perspective of the dynamics of the development of bio-aggressors, the operation of the plant and farming (environmental conditions and operation of the root system), and the measurement of environmental impacts (pesticide flows). The main "factors of ecological intensification" studied concern the increase in diversity in agro-systems (especially service and cover plants, and soil biodiversity) and its spatio-temporal organization (the spatial organization of the farming system to the scale of the plot). The unit's second mission concerns the design of innovative cropping systems and their validation. Banana is the unit's preferred study model. The unit also conducts research on plantain and pineapple models.

Research highlights
| The unit's research activities are part of an innovation process, with research actions such as "knowledge creation", "knowledge integration" and "validation of results". In this context, the unit works in close partnership with the production sector, particularly in the West Indies ("sustainable banana" plan).
