Information and technologies for agro-processing (UMR ITAP)

Director: Tewfik SARI

Research area
The ITAP Joint Research Unit is specialized in engineering science. It carries out research on the technologies and methodologies applied, with a high level of expertise in instrumentation and field experiments. The field of application has been extended to sustainable agriculture and environment. In the next four years, it will focus on the technologies and methods for the diagnosis and optimization of agricultural and environmental processes. The unit has worked on optical sensors for complex environments which looked at waste, biomass and soil, and generate new research questions (interaction of matter-radiation, chemometrics including optical models). It also made agro-environmental decision-support tools which can be used in integrating a temporal dimension into zoning methodologies and structuring theoretical work on spatio-temporal sampling combining. It has also worked on two-phase fluid mechanics and on methods of environmental and social assessment to target areas of settlements, water and territories.
Research highlights

With the aim to develop equipment for sustainable agriculture, the ITAP UMR is developing the scientific and technical foundations for the following topics:

  • Sensors and decision-making aid: technologies for the characterization of the eco- and agro-systems;
  • Technologies and methods for reducing pollutions due to pesticides, modelling and experimenting;
  • Environmental and social assessment of products and processes.
