Abstract

This proposal aims to provide funds to support exchange between a network of researchers, including a visiting scientist Dr. Bezner Kerr on agroecological transitions, with a focus on social dimensions. The network of scholars and practitioners who do agroecological research in the Global South and elsewhere will have opportunity during Dr. Bezner Kerr’s sabbatical to discuss, exchange strengthen their understanding of the potential and challenges of using an agroecological approach to transition to sustainable, equitable and resilient food systems. This proposal builds on the long term participatory research on agroecological approaches carried out by Dr. Bezner Kerr in Malawi and Tanzania, her recent experience serving on the United Nations High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) of the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS), and the extensive research done by CIRAD researchers on agroecological approaches in the Global South.
