Cirad

Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement

CIRAD is the French agricultural research and international cooperation organisation working for the sustainable development of tropical and Mediterranean regions. Its operations encompass life sciences, social sciences and engineering sciences, applied to agriculture, food, environment and territorial management.

Faced with the economic, social and environmental changes linked to globalisation, CIRAD has renewed its scientific strategy. This strategy is now centred on six key thematic fields, accompanied by a new geographical partnership approach aimed at expanding and consolidating its international cooperation structure.

The world around us is ever-changing, largely as a result of pressure from economic globalisation and new communication methods. Growing requirements for food and energy have put agriculture back at the forefront of the world stage. The future of agricultural activities and farming populations is a major global challenge. CIRAD promotes agricultural science that transcends boundaries and is open and respectful of people, territories and the environment, in order to meet the key challenges of development.
