In this project, the six partners of the University Consortium in South East Asia join with the Labex Agro community at Montpellier to experiment an international course, offered as a Summer School (SS), as an opportunity to assess innovative cropping systems based on crops diversification and associations. The overall aim is therefore to build the capacities of academic training teams and of young professionals to tackle the challenges of the integration of knowledge for agro-ecological systems. More precisely, the objective of the present project will be to prepare and organize this Summer School to be delivered at university Brawijaya (Malang, East Java in Indonesia), where appropriate conditions are existing to use the local (agroforestry) systems as the material for the assessment to be done by the participants. The topic chosen for this event is therefore:
"Diversification of crops, mixed cropping and risk management strategies in smallholder agriculture in the context of climate change". The overall objective of the project can be split into three specific objectives, that address respectively research, capacity building and cooperation between the partners:
Specific Objective 1 : Build collectively a framework for the assessment of mixed cropping and risk assessment of cropping systems in smallholders agriculture
Specific Objective 2 : Experiment training methodologies by active learning for building the capacities of young scientists and professionals on integrated sustainability of production systems
Specific Objective 3 : Create opportunities for building cooperation and exchanges between the Labex Agro units, the Montpellier training institutions and the UC universities
