Abstract

Support to the EUCARPIA conference which will take place from 8 to 11 May 2017 in Montpellier.
The overall theme of the conference will be "Crop diversification in a changing world. Mobilizing the green gold of plant genetic resources."
An emphasis will be placed on the exploitation of genetic resources in plant breeding. The titles of the plenary sessions are
- PGR conservation - in nature, in production systems and in genebanks
- Breeding for diverse farming systems - the roles of the formal and informal sectors
- Collaborative approaches in plant breeding - public-private partnerships and participatory practices
- Marketing diversity - enhancing the enabling environment for crop diversification
The target audience is traditionally mainly European, but this year the scientific committee wanted to make an effort towards other continents.
These themes should allow a significant mobilisation of the French community, both from the public and private sectors.

Goal

Objectives of the conference :
- To achieve a high-level conference on the conservation and use of plant genetic resources in a context of global change.
- To bring together 180-250 participants, including a significant proportion (around 20%) of non-European participants, and to encourage interaction between these participants.
- To attract the traditional audience of this conference (institutional genebanks and associated research) and a less traditional audience (private plant breeding, farmers’ organisations).
