Abstract

Goal

• Transfer of knowledge and know-how to young scientists
• Capacity building in Sub-Saharan African countries
• Application of scientific principles for problem solving in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Scientific exchanges and interactions between stakeholders
• Tropical ecology networking and structuring of research in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Action

Lectures and conferences ; Field visits and meetings with farmers ; Group discussions ; Laboratory demonstrations ; Tropical microbial ecology research mini-projects ; Pre-proposal writing and grant panel workshop

Results

Capacity building for young scientists in soil microbial ecology, in particular for 10 African participants ; Completion of 6 research mini-projects ; networking between young African, US and French scientists ; participant satisfaction survey

Perspectives

Renew this kind of intensive course which allows formal training in the latest developments in ecological science, advanced technique application in a stimulating research environment and transnational networking.
