Abstract

The project aimed to support the organisation of the international ProMusa-ISHS-Cirad seminar on "Agroecological approaches for the promotion of innovative banana and plantain production systems". This seminar will aim to better understand how to promote more sustainable banana or plantain (cooking banana) production systems by mobilising agroecological precepts and techniques and by using biodiversity to restore, conserve and optimise the ecosystem services that ensure the functioning of cultivated ecosystems.
The main objective of the seminar will be to review the scientific tools and methods, as well as the recent strategies and technical options currently being implemented for agroecological engineering, which allow for innovation in the development of sustainable and ecologically intensified banana or plantain production systems.
Several scales of action will be considered: the cultivated field, the watershed, the farm, but also the region and/or the territory.
