An international Workshop organized by IRD and CIRAD with the support of Agropolis Fondation was organized on 8-11 Dec 2009 in Montpellier. It was attended by 21 scientists coming from 6 countries, including 4 West African countries. This included representatives from an NGO, from CGIAR centers, NARS and advanced research institutions. A large range of scientific approaches were represented (population genetics, botany, phylogeny, genetic resources, socio-economics, GIS, modelling in system-agronomy)A synopsis for research proposal was developed, of which the objective is to "Enhance capacity of the stakeholders for a sustainable management of yam agrobiodiversity in a dynamic environment : Current and Future Role of yam agrobiodiversity in the resilience of socioecological systems of sub-Saharan Africa / West Africa (from Guinea to Cameroon)".
CRP (CGIAR Research Programme) 3.4 "Root, tubers, and bananas for food security and income" and the Agrobiodiversity component of CRP 1.1 appear as possible host programmes to develop some of the ideas produced during the workshop
