PROPULSE

Towards sustainable intensification in West Africa thought improved production and processing of pulses : promotion of innovations from farm to fork

The properties of pulses make them indispensable allies in promoting sustainable intensification and in the fight against malnutrition. Given the current interest in "plant protein" sources, it seems important to support this value chain in West Africa. Therefore, the objective of the ProPulse project is to take advantage of innovations at different stages of the pulse value chain in Benin and Burkina-Faso, for promoting sustainable (...)

Tracing the evolution of pathogens and their virulence determinants through ancient herbarium samples

It is now possible to access the DNA of older isolates of a pathogen by screening samples of its host plant available in herbarium collections. Such data will provide information on the "ancient" genetic diversity of phytoviruses and phytobacteria involved in current diseases and will allow us to jointly estimate their mutation rates and date the divergence events of the major pathogens isolated today. The identification and extraction of (...)

TAFER T1 – Modèles de croissance

Trackside plant growth model: architectural traits involved in the success of different plant biological types on railway embankments

The TAFER project aimed to study different aspects of the temporal dynamics of vegetation along linear land transport infrastructures in the Mediterranean region in order to feed realistic and dynamic visualization models and tools over time. The vegetation surveys on the railway embankments showed that the species that spontaneously colonize the embankments are dominant in the early years following the construction of the infrastructure. (...)

Agropol Transcriptomics

Transcriptional profiling of maize genes in response to a growth-promoting agropolymer

The use of polymers in agriculture is gaining popularity. Superabsorbant polymers potentially influence soil permeability, density, texture, evaporation and water infiltration rates. Functionalized (or “smart”) polymers are used to deliver various substances including pesticides and herbicides, thus lowering the doses applied to the cultures. Today a myriad of applications of these polymers exist (for a review see Puoci et al., 2008). The (...)

BIONALYTICS

transversal data analytics for bio-product fermentation

In the case of this project, the goal is to first learn automatically the parameters that affect the alcoholic fermentation process controlling in this way the final quality and flavor of wine; and second, allow better decision making solutions for producers depending on their target market. The first step of this project consists of the collection experimental data on wine fermentation from SPO. On the same time, a deep study in (...)

Understanding emergence of infectious diseases: Linking genomic evolution to the evolution of virulence of a phytovirus during the course of adaptation to its environments

Studies on the molecular mechanisms of virus adaptation could provide insights on the process underlying their emergence. However, such studies are scarse not only for viruses but alos for any other organisms. In this work, we propose to characterize adaptive mutations arising in viral populations, evolving either in constant or variable environments, and to evaluate their phenotypic expression. Since the viral environment is mainly (...)

Land surface – atmosphere exchanges within hilly watersheds

Understanding surface-atmosphere exchanges at the scale of an agricultural watershed on a hilly Tunisian landscape: the influence of upward and downward flows on energy and mass transfers

Knowledge of evapotranspiration is crucial within Mediterranean agricultural regions under water shortage conditions. One the one hand, evapotranspiration corresponds to the two-thirds of the hydrological budget. On the other hand, evapotranspiration is related to crop water consumption. Agricultural activities have increased within Mediterranean hilly watersheds which structures allow water harvesting for resource management. Nevertheless, (...)
