Creation of the Fellowship was announced at the inaugural One Planet Summit held in Paris in December 2017. At the 2017 Summit, 12 commitments consisting of 30 actions were made to intensify and accelerate global efforts to fight climate change. The One Planet Fellowship is action no.1 of Commitment no.3 which focuses on mobilizing researchers and young people to work for the climate. The Fellowship will work to build the capacity of high-potential researchers from Africa and Europe to develop relevant, gender-responsive interventions towards climate change adaptation.
